Pierre Akkaoui, trainer and advisor at our Montreal store, recently got his hands on the two new (May 2022) EOS R7 and EOS R10 – two APS-C format cameras using the great qualities of the R-mount (and all its lenses!), with a smaller size.
Canon has also designed lenses specifically for the APS-C range, which are therefore smaller in size. These bodies and lenses can come together:
EOS R7 with the RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM
EOS R10 with the RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM.
To put the two bodies in the brand's range, the EOS R7 would be the mirrorless successor of an EOS 7D, and the EOS R10 would be one of the EOS Rebel line.
SOME SIMILARITIES
What do the EOS R7 and EOS R10 have in common? Both offer a mechanical burst at 15 images per second, the same quality of autofocus, an APS-C sensor offering a zoom coefficient multiplied by 1.6, as well as a swivel screen.
THE GREAT DISTINCTIONS
The EOS R7 has 32.5 megapixels and internal mechanical stabilization. The EOS R10 offers 24.2 megapixels and no internal stabilization.
The EOS R7 also benefits from a slightly more solid construction, thanks to its magnesium body, and a higher shutter speed for sports or wildlife. It also has room for two SD cards (only one for the EOS R10) and a larger buffer memory, which allows us to take more images continuously.
For those of you interested in video, the EOS R7 offers C-Log recording, which will provide more latitude in professional video, as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
A small difference will also be found in the battery. The EOS R7 uses the LP-E6NH battery, very common at Canon, while we find the LP-E17 in the EOS R10, which has the advantage of being much smaller. The latter is actually lighter, more compact and easier to carry than its Rebel counterparts – a great product, especially for the price!
