Sony Canada allowed Pierre Akkaoui, advisor and trainer at our Montreal store, to get his hands on this specimen of the Sony a7R V for the first time and here's what he had to say.
For the redesign of the Sony a7R V, Sony has made improvements to this camera exactly where we wanted them.
The priority is still to offer flawless images of very high quality.
So the Sony a7R V keeps all the best, including its 61 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor.
The body is very similar to the previous generation, the Sony a7R IV. However, we note the presence of a tilt and swivel screen that allows you to keep a very good angle of view in all situations.
There are also two slots for CF Express Type A cards that also accepts SD cards and on the other side, the HDMI port remains in full size.
Artificial Intelligence
The flagship improvement of this Sony a7R V is undoubtedly the addition of its AI processor (for Artificial Intelligence) that provides unparalleled support to the focus. It allows the camera to understand the subject in front of it to know where to focus.
Sony talks about "Human Pose Estimation".
This is a system of recognition of the human bodys, which allows it to understand and anticipate the way the human subject is standing in front of it. It optimizes the focus even if the eyes are not visible.
For the computing power, Sony granted the Sony a7R V with a nice update by including two Bionz XR processors. The arrival of these processors contributes to an improvement of about 60% of the performance of real-time tracking of subjects on humans, and 40% on other subjects.
In particular, animals and birds: their eyes, head and body.
Insects: head and body.
And cars, trains and planes: the front part or the whole subject.
And even more!
Another very strong point of this Sony a7R V is an internal image stabilization equivalent to 8 stops.
We now have the possibility to choose between three RAW file sizes; 15, 26 and 60 million pixels.
For the burst, we work up to 10 frames per second with the Sony a7R V.
A very interesting point also, the focus bracketing is now available.
What about video?
With the Sony a7R V, we get a tool more than powerful! It can shoot in 8K at 24 frames per second, in 4K at 60 frames per second and in 1080p at 120 frames per second.
We find the S-Log3, S-Cinetone and HLG profiles as well as the famous "focus breathing".
