Quebec's only retail chain specializing in photography and video enters a new chapter in its nearly 90-year history
Montreal, November 11, 2024 – Gosselin, a pioneering Quebec retailer in photo and video founded in 1936, takes a new step forward. Éric Vaillancourt and Mario Ouimet
With their expertise and dedication to Gosselin, Mario Ouimet, and Éric Vaillancourt are well-positioned to lead the company to new heights. Their command of retail and management, combined with a clear strategic vision, will enable Gosselin to overcome market challenges while capitalizing on new opportunities. In a landscape of intense competition, evolving communication and consumption patterns, and the democratization of photography and video, they will guide the company with agility and innovation.
According to Circana, a company specializing in consumer data analysis, the independent retail market for photo and video grew by 12% over the past year in Canada. Although young people primarily use their smartphones, they are increasingly realizing that they can go further and enhance the quality of their content with proper training and quality tools. Influencers and podcast producers also represent a rapidly expanding customer segment.
This acquisition will thus help preserve the company’s Quebec roots and strengthen the organizational culture that has enabled Gosselin to grow and stand out from the competition. The values of passion, integrity, and performance, which are dear to employees and customers alike, will be at the heart of this new era.
“I am convinced that Mario and Éric are the ideal individuals to lead Gosselin to new heights,” said Jean Goupil, who has owned the company for 25 years. “Their knowledge of the market and their commitment to the company make them the perfect successors.”
